Mt. San Jacinto by way of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Snowy fun ... just a few hours away.

The latest LA storm means snow in our local mountains!

This seems like a great time to repost my piece on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.  I can't believe I lived in LA over 20 years before checking out the easiest, coolest way to experience a true winter wonderland.  Hop on the vaguely Jetsons-like tram in Palm Springs, and after a stunning 15 minute ride you'll be almost 9000 feet up on top of beautiful Mt. San Jacinto which, during most of the winter, looks a lot like it does in the above video.

Not sure if it's snowy or not?  Just check the current weather right here.

And to see for yourself, check out the current conditions via the mountain web cam -- or, as my daughter says, just Facetime the mountain.

No snow chains required, and you can go swimming in Palm Springs when you get back down.

Noir Interlude...

Just a little noir photo safari ... from Pasadena, through downtown LA, across mid city, over to Culver City, creeping into the west side and Santa Monica.

(I'm inspired, as you might guess, by this guy.)

Looking Up and Around...

It's been a mild-mannered winter around here.  Here are a few views from the San Gabriel Valley as we head into spring...

There are over 16 million stories in greater Los Angeles...

...this is mine.

Welcome to LA: Other, a blog in and about Los Angeles.  It's lucky that a picture is worth a thousand words, because I'm a hopeless shutterbug.  Showing is often so much more fun than telling.  Join me here each week as I show and tell a few LA stories.  I want to hear yours, too.

(Be sure to hit the widescreen button on all videos, since I'm linking from YouTube. It's a better view!)
